A day on the ark
Noah endured 40 days and nights of rain, but did he experience a globular nebula? (?) It rained for about 36 hours straight here from Sunday into Monday. Had it been ten degrees colder, we would have had 6 and 1/2 feet of snow.
From our vantage point, it looked like most of central New Jersey was closed today. Our respective schools all were shut, as we learned from a neighbor who knocked on our door at 7:30, doing the rounds on foot because the internet was down. We spent a morning in the house, but with Edith bouncing off the walls by 10am, Tom and I gave up on the plan to get schoolwork done in shifts and decided to engage Edith in cooking a lasagna dinner for our similarly housebound neighbors. The meal required us to get a few items at the grocery store. Just 1/2 mile away uphill, so we figured we would make it fine. We did, but because the highway was closed just past the grocery store where it starts back downhill again, hundreds of cars getting off the highway in search of non-flooded alternative routes right at the grocery store exit made getting out of the shopping plaza a significant undertaking. We didn't venture out again.
Still, a day of lost work, limited mobility, and a call from the township asking us to limit our water use because the drains can't handle the backup are nothing compared to the horrific news from Blacksburg, Virginia today. It feels almost selfish to write a post about our situation here.

How many pots of honey do you Pooh Bears have on the branch of your treehouse next to you to tide you over during the flood? Don't forget, if you need to reach Christopher Robin or friend Piglet, a honey pot or an upturned umbrella makes an admirable rescue boat! Hang in there.
I'm so glad you're ok. I had no idea the flooding was so bad just a few miles away from us. Thankfully, we live on top of a hill.
I laughed at your lasagna story. My housebound toddlers and I decided to bake a cake!
