"God" is "dog" spelled backwards

Edith is concerned that we've neglected Bismarck's spiritual development. Yesterday at dinner she tried to teach him to pray. She clasped her hands, leaned towards him, and earnestly repeated "Aaaa....Aaaa....Aaaa...."

Like many a Sunday School student before him, Bismarck was less interested in the spiritual training than in the snack he hoped soon would be forthcoming.
