West versus East

(Pictures of the cousins' visit are proving tought to download; stay tuned.)

What I'll miss:

  • A view of America's most beloved mountain from my kitchen window, for Pete's sake
  • Opening the door to get the morning paper and startling the deer lying on the front step
  • At 98 degrees, finding it perfectly bearable inside and out for regular activity...without air conditioning

What I won't miss:
  • Finding it perfectly bearable at 98 degrees for the same reason that thousands of acres around us are burning, keeping everyone glancing nervously at the smoke in the sky and thinking about what they'd grab if an evacuation order came
  • Eating produce from California and having that count as eating "local" ... (again, that dryness thing).
We found a picture of an old cousin. What do you think?

Edith's planning to show it to her new friends in Pennsylvania as an example of what life is like in the Wild West.

Eyes like the morning star,
Cheeks like a rose;
Edith was a pretty girl,
God Almighty knows.

Weep, all ye little rains,
And wail, winds, wail,
All along, along, along
The Colorado Trail.

Love the photo! :)

Eric just informed me that there are wildfires in/around Manitou, which made me come to the blog for an update. Scary! Hope you don't have to evacuate... though actually you are just about to head out of there for good, yes? Best wishes with moving and cross-country travels!
