Odd blips in space and time
To continue marveling at the micro-climates here:
Last night on the news they reported continual hurricane-speed gusts in the area. Not just the broader area, but specifically in Garden of the Gods, just on the other side of the main road, less than a mile away and 200 feet below us. And there were 75 mph gusts whipping down Ute Pass, a mile or two to the west.
Would you believe we had no wind at all?

A couple of nights ago, "Earth and Sky" reported that just at sunset, one would be able to see the crescent moon, Jupiter, and Venus in a more or less straight line through the western sky. Then draw a line down from Venus to the horizon, they said, and you would see Mercury there, looking slightly reddish.
Except that where we live they should have amended the report: At sunset, one will be able to see the crescent moon, Jupiter, and Venus in a more or less a straight through the western sky. Then draw a line down from Venus toward the 8,000-foot wall blocking your western horizon and you will see the light on top of Pike's Peak, looking slightly reddish. What, you mistook it for Mercury? Easy mistake: You were only off by some 60 million miles.

Happy 9th birthday to our resident birthday boy. We are now all about 3s and 6s around here, in addition to being perpetually at sixes and sevens.
