His idleness a tune

Overwhelmed by the number of recent photos I need to get up, the clunkiness of Blogger as a tool for so doing, and the limits on our free time, I'm going to take it bit by bit.

Here, a short video taken through our bedroom window last Sunday morning. I heard something in the backyard and looked out, just as someone was coming to the front door to explain:

Yep, they're gone. Our neighbor stayed in our backyard while we went to church, so he could track them. I don't know anything about beekeeping, but apparently they were swarming in advance of choosing a new home. When they started to set up their new place in one of our trees, our neighbor sprayed the tree full of sugar water, and the drugged bees dropped into a special bucket he had. Then he took them and sold them to a local organic farm. I went out back when we came home and saw a few stray critters buzzing around, but the swarm was gone.

Incidentally, the image quality is so much poorer on the video when uploaded to Blogger. The original was fantastic, but you could see the black swarms against the trees and the sky much more clearly!

Yikes!!! So what happened next? How did they round them up/get rid of them? (Or did they?)

(PS: my word verification is "unspa", which may be a good description of your backyard that morning...)

Don't know what happened to the first two comments posted here--Blogger did some site maintenance, and they disappeared. Anyway, our neighbor stayed in our yard to track them while we went to church, and when the started to set up shop in one of our trees, the neighbor sprayed them tree full of sugar water to drug them all, at which point they apparently dropped into a bucket he had, and he took them to a local organic farm to sell them. All but a few strays were gone by the time we got home.

As I mentioned in the comment that is now gone, the swarms are much more visible in the original version of the video!

(And MY verification word is "sequel," which I hope is not related to this event!)
