Mom gets it

The Huggies size 5 diapers currently feature two different cartoons: On half the diapers in a box, Mickey and Minne are dancing together; on the other half, Mickey is handing Minnie a bunch of balloons. Edith has decided that she prefers balloon diapers to dancing diapers, with the predictable result that at some point only dancing diapers are left on the stack on her changing table.

After a week or so of all dancing diapers, I went out last night and bought a new box after Edith was asleep. It was sitting in the hallway when she woke up in the morning, already open because I had removed some to restock the diaper bag. She came out of her room and down the hallway to the box. Peering in, she exclaimed in the tone of the executive whose subordinates have finally delivered the long-awaited memo,

"Balloon diapers. That's what I needed! Thank you, Mommy."
