For a flag-crazed kiddo, there is no better holiday than the Fourth of July.

Like last year, we spent it in North Carolina with Edith's grandparents. We had a great time. New additions to the homefront included an expanded Museum of Life and Science, now with train ride and butterfly preserve, and a brand new kid's museum in the heart of Chapel Hill, each section organized around a particular story. Edith loves steps like she loves flags, so she almost looked no further than the porch right at the entrance.


In a revised edition of the fairy tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears become good friends and the Bears are sorry to see her go:



When Edith did continue further into the museum, she discovered the joy of putting chocolate chips into the cookies.


But best of all, of course, was time with family.
