And vocab at almost-10
So much of the early part of this blog documented the children's growing vocabularies, with delight and amazement. These days I am rarely surprised by the girls' language.
Sometimes other people still are, however, as when my colleague was asking Alice about DisneyWorld. Alice described our experience when the Little Mermaid ride stopped for several minutes while we were sitting right under Ursula's eels, listening to them hiss taunts at passing boats. "At first it was scary," said Alice, "but then it got a little redundant." My childless colleague laughed in surprise.
But every now and then there are times when even I am still tickled, even by my eldest, as tonight at dinner when Alice began to complain of stomach pains as a seeming attention ploy. Edith was skeptical. Alice insisted her stomach had been hurting for two weeks, though less now than last week. Edith shrugged. "So the symptoms are abating; wait another week, and they'll be gone."
Childhood is abating, and I am musing on the idea of officially closing out the blog at the approaching decade mark...

Nooooo! I understand why it might be time to end this chronicle, but if you do, I will really really miss it! (And we will have to speak more regularly on the phone to compensate, which now that I think of it wouldn't be a bad thing at all...)
And of course I always love hearing about the girls' language development. As such voracious readers, naturally they are going to come up with words that surprise you and others. :)
Like RLB, I will be very sad if you decide to close out Between the Dark and the Daylight, even though I understand the appeal of milestone markers like decades as reasons to end things. Will miss your cerebrations as much as the stories about the girls. It's been a treasured way for Grandpa and me to feel we are still in touch. If the end is approaching, do please try to persuade Edith (or Alice!) to launch a blog of her own to fill the void!
Oooh, yes, I second Bestemor's idea of getting the girls to launch their own blog(s) if this one gets closed out! :)
