Even a thunderstorm didn't dampen the spirits of this merry crew. It was actually one of the first times I've found myself driving a car full of kids, listening to the conversation in the back, feeling at once defined by my capable, event-managing, mom-ness, and meanwhile fascinated as amateur anthropologist, listening to my daughter and friends, whom I rarely see together (outside of the lunchroom). Backseat conversation ranged from a geography game, to why Jesus is the Christian God if he was Jewish, to an imaginary game about being protective spirits for woodland animals, to what they're each reading right now, to sleepaway camp (three of them will be going for the first time this summer), to who is the best at Fruit Ninja and whether the rainbow blade or the bamboo blade is to be preferred.

So glad the party came off, weather notwithstanding. Looks (and sounds) like an awesome crew, who must really have changed the usual vibe at Longwood! Got to go now and read up on Fruit Ninjas....
