A shared "first"

Lots of good, fall-ish photos to put up soon but in the meantime, we must record an important milestone:

At ages 3 and 36 respectively, Alice and I both served our first detention on Tuesday. The instructions to the group were to sit silently and complete homework without the use of any electronics. While most of the room managed to comply, Alice followed another time-honored detention tradition and slept through the whole hour.

Attendance was my punishment for accepting a job at a secondary school with all its attendant proctoring and chaperoning obligations. For Alice, it was the repercussion for eating 8 bowls of Cheerios in one day and finding herself too sick to attend preschool.

love this. Also, what a great story for her to tell (or to have told about her) 15/20/30 years from now (-:
