My kid makes me smile

Edith told me about her day at school, which included a mouse in the neighboring classroom, ball handling relay races in gym, colors in spoken Chinese and numbers in written Chinese, and a fun drawing app in technology.

Then she wanted to know about my day. I told her about  all the classes I taught today, including the three classes I covered for colleagues celebrating Rosh Hashanah. "And in the tenth grade, we played a Black Plague game, and some of the students got the plague and died," I finished.

"Oh," she said. "So there are rats in the school, too. But Mom, I think you're going to get some angry calls from parents."

Hee! Is 7 being a perfectly lovely age in your family too? It's SO NICE over here. Such a counterbalance to the 3-year-old... who sounds a lot like how you described yours at this age (i.e., requiring every ounce of patience I have and more besides).
