Cars and trucks and things that go
It was an exciting morning in our neighborhood. For those fascinated by wheeled transportation, at least. From our balcony Edith could simultaneously watch a car carrier unload one of its four cars--something I'd never seen happen before either--and two school buses in succession stop at the corner for the elementary school children. Add the arrival of a moving van, two of her favorite dogs running by with their owners, and the appearance of the parents of a neighbor child, whom she identified to my surprise by their daughter's name even in the daughter's absence, and it was hard to get her to sit down to breakfast.
While eating she recognized another favorite wheeled vehicle operating outside. "Maw mow-uh!" she exclaimed in response to the buzz of the motor. Lawn mowers are among her favorite things right now, and it's one of my favorite words to hear her say, since it's both long and quirky.
Speaking of quirky, after her bath the other night she decided to ham it up with a baseball helmet. We'll save the more indecorous photos for private viewings.
At school in her new class (more on which later), she is playing a different role. Her teachers told us that she has been busy putting all the dolls to bed, then holding a finger to her mouth and encouraging the other children to be quiet while the dolls sleep. Um, good luck with that.

Oh my goodness, she's so cute! both in her looks and in her words. I love the daycare story too. Isn't this the funnest age? I am having so much fun with Sam lately; he is learning new words and using them in the funniest contexts, he's cuddly and affectionate, and he is a total ham, too.
I like to imagine Sam and Edith having a conversation consisting entirely of "Lawnmower!" "Walrus!" Matilda could add in her new ear-splitting shriek for sonic variety.
